The Genesis of the ANGES DU SOLEIL Project :

Before founding the NGO ANGES DU SOLEIL, Sylvie GRAVIL worked for 6 years in charity for another NGO. She realised that many associations existed in Mauritius

to help families in difficulty but that poverty and lack of education

were not moving in the right direction. They remained the same over the years, and Sylvie was feeling a general lack of efficiency.

His conviction was that it was necessary to act on education, to give children a real chance to get by a higher level of education to change the poorest families' mentality and thus try to raise them socially.

The project:

So 7 years ago, she had the idea to create the NGO ANGES DU SOLEIL, whose main objective is to finance the accessibility of young Mauritian children from a disadvantaged social background to education different by enrolling them in schools "outside the Mauritian system" (private English-speaking schools or French-speaking schools), which provides them with a quality of education and schooling far superior of the classical Mauritian system and the advantage of social mix.

Its legal form is a not-for-profit company that has obtained "NGO" approval. Its accounts are audited annually by an independent audit firm and are published. You can find the activity reports, the Chartres, the Accounts of the Association on the website.

The NGO selects, according to exact criteria, children from poor backgrounds and finances their education.

The school agrees to give a 50% discount on the tuition fees (and does not charge an entrance fee)

The NGO pays the other 50% + transport costs (also negotiated at 50%).

The cost of a full sponsorship for 1 child amounts to 2,000 euros per year (school fees + transport costs which school bills can justify), but some may choose to sponsor only part of the amount, sponsors may choose to pay the NGO or directly to the school.

To ensure the project's success, this tripartite commitment (NGO/School/Family) starts as soon as possible. Most of the time from nursery school onwards and must continue normally until secondary education (BAC or HIGH-SCHOOL Degree). It is therefore spread over a period of 15 years for each child.

To ensure the financing of school fees for each "sponsored" child, the NGO must find funds from private partners, companies or individuals.

Sylvie GRAVIL is fully aware that this is an ambitious project for each child selected.

This project can be stopped at any time either because it will no longer find sufficient funds from partners, either because the families will not respect the "Charter of Obligations to be respected".

But on the one hand, his philosophy is that if we only look at the risks, we can do nothing and

on the other hand, she is convinced that even in the event of early termination of the "sponsored" school programme, the child who will return to the Mauritian system will have acquired superior skills and abilities to help him be more successful.

Apart from its core business (the pure schooling of children), the NGO carries out educational activities. various measures aimed at developing all young people in the underprivileged neighbourhoods of Tamarin/Rivière Noire

in particular through play, sport, artistic creation ...
